Hello all! Welcome to my 3D Text Effect tutorial for Adobe Photoshop. Once you have worked through this tutorial, feel free to post your results so that I can give you feedback and thank you for trying it.
3D Text Effect (Photoshop)

Create a new document that is 500px by 300px (width by height). Fill the layer with the color white (#FFFFFF). Double click on the layer to open up layer properties and select the gradient overlay option. Leave the settings as default, but edit the colors so that the first color is a medium grey (#8c8c8c) and the second color is white. You should now have something that looks like/resembles the following:

Now, create a new layer on top of the gradient layer. Fill the new layer with the color white (#FFFFFF). Then, go to filter > render > clouds. Now go to filter > render > difference clouds. Press CTRL + F together a total of nine (9) times. In the layers panel you should see a drop down menu available to you. It will currently say Normal. Select this menu and change the layer option to Screen. Set the opacity of the layer to 20%.

Next, create a new layer and fill it with the color black (#000000). Then, go to filter > filter gallery. Select texture and apply the texturizer option and give it the following settings:

Once you have done that, set select the Overlay option from the drop down menu in the layers panel and set the fill for the layer to 35%. You should now have something that looks like/resembles the following:

So, what we have done so far is create the background we are going to use for our 3D text effect. Are you with me so far? Okay, let's keep going.

Now, you will want to choose a font to use for your text. For the purpose of this tutorial I'll be using the "Wide Latin" font at a size of 36pt. Select your text tool and click near the center of your canvas. Type in the word/words that you wish to give the 3D effect to. Make sure the text color is white (#FFFFFF). Right click on the text layer in your layers panel and select the option to Rasterize Type.

Next, you are going to skew your text. To skew your text, go to edit > transform > skew. To skew the text beyond resizing, CLICK + DRAG the corners of your selected text box. Skew your text to your liking and then click the check mark in the top right side of your action bar to close the transform tool. You should now have something that looks like/resembles the following:

Now begins the fun part... Styling. The first style option we are going to add is a bevel and emboss effect. Double click your text layer to open up the layer properties. Select the bevel and emboss option, make sure that the contour box is checked beneath it, and apply the following settings:

Make sure that the colors are white (#FFFFFF) and dark grey (#4f4f4f). Now, check off the satin box to add a satin style to the layer. Apply the following settings:

Now we are going to add a gradient overlay style to our text. Click the box for gradient overlay, change the first color to a light grey (#CACACA) and the second color to white (#FFFFFF)and then make sure all of your settings match the following:

When you have completed the steps above, you can click on okay to close the styles box and view what we have so far. You should now have something that looks like/resembles the following:

Now we are going to add some additional properties to make the text look more 3D. Duplicate the text layer. On the duplicate layer, in the layers panel, click on the word effects and drag it down to the little trash can at the bottom of the panel. This will remove all of the layer effects for that layer. Now, go to image > adjustments > curves. Apply the following settings:

Now, go to image > adjustments > hue/saturation and apply the following settings:

Next, look at your layers panel. Drag the selected text layer to just below the original text layer. Then, select the move tool and using the left arrow on your key board, move the selected layer to the left three (3) times. Now, duplicate this layer and select the new layer, move this layer down one (1) time and left one (1) time. With the same layer selected repeat this two more times.

Duplicate the selected layer and repeat the previous step of down one (1) time and left one (1) time. The total amount of times to do this for this layer is three times.

Next, click on the little eye next to all of the layers in your layers panel with the exception of the three layers we just created. Once you have done that, press CTRL + SHIFT + E to merge the remaining layers together into one layer. Double click on the merged layer to open up the styles settings. Give the layer a gradient overlay. The first color should be a light grey (#e5e5e5) and the second color should be a medium grey (#9d9d9d). Make sure that the settings match the following:

Now we are going to add a few addition style settings to this layer. Select bevel and emboss and apply the following settings:

Select stroke and give it the following settings:

Next, we move on to the inner shadow style. Select the inner shadow option and give it the following settings: *NOTE: Do not forget to change the contour.

Now, select satin and give the following settings:

Last but not least, select the drop shadow style and apply the following settings:

When you have completed the above style steps, you can click okay to exit the styles box. Then you can go back to your layers panel and set all of your layers to visible by clicking the eye next to each layer that is hiding. Now you have a final result. My result looks different as I played with some settings. Once you have grasped how to do this feel free to play with the settings and styles to see what you can come up.. Post the results.
